Others have noted the awkward plot twists that remind me of a sitcom, but I think this book should be listed in the book The Novel Cure as therapy for "Accepting yourself, having difficulty." The main characters are socially inept, others judged them and they liked themselves anyway. Some of the plot was definitely contrived but the male romantic interest rang true as a character. I have met likable male chauvinists who come from more traditional cultures, and I found Pyotr's inadvertent misogyny combining with good intentions and sincere affection believable. I would not have written this novel (were I talented and determined enough to write one) because I am a feminist, but I can enjoy it because I like a wide range of people. Pyotr is too sexist for me, but I liked Tyler's sympathetic treatment of him.
