I truly enjoyed this book. Those looking for just a good romance will be in for a surprise at the depth of the characters to the mystery of a deep family secret that affects everyone and everything in a small island town.As always, Brenda Novak begins with a simple story... a woman coming home to lick her wounds after a failed marriage, a mother too worried about status that she ignores the health of her own children, and a man with a disabled daughter working to make ends meet. From there, the simplicity ends and a deep story of forgiveness, redemption, and love begins. The Secret Sister is a phenomenal beginning to a series I hope has as long a life as her Whiskey Creek novels. I fell in love with the setting and the characters, some easier to love than others. As with most of Novak's novels, she incorporates heart issues and issues we deal with on a daily basis. In this novel, judging people based on their status and seeing people for who they are and not where they come from are the recurring themes. I enjoyed this story and will definitely continue reading. For those who haven't read anything by Brenda Novak, this is a great series to start with especially if you crave a little more meat to your books. Some language and sexual themes throughout
