If you followed the Southern vampire books debacle, you might be like me: suspicious of any further Charlaine Harris works. I am willing to read some of them for free from the library, so I borrowed Midnight Crossroad. (Don't give her your money!) It's not good (and I'm not surprised). A bunch of oddballs live in a tiny village (a witch, a psychic, a talking cat, a shapeshifter reverend, etc.) None of them are appealing. Sure, most of them may have special powers but still they are not interesting creatures because of their dull personalities. This book doesn't contain any adventure or romance either. I guess it is a slow build and she wants to rope in new readers for the next book in this series, where she will expand on the history of each villager. Looks like some right wing white men are the big enemy. Zzzzzzzzzz. The only good part was near the very end when the killer was revealed. I also want to mention, that she tried to be funny and mention the characters from her other series in this book (Lily Bard?) Just like how she mentioned them in the Sookie books. Get a life.
