1974's "The Odessa File," based on the Frederick Forsyth novel, is a bit paranoid thriller (very hot in the 70s) and part tracking down ex-Nazis movie. Set in the early 60s, Jon Voight (good, but with a distracting German accent) plays a journalist who stumbles on a secretive organization of former S.S. officers. It's not entirely clear why he has to be the one to track them down, which is a key flaw in the plotting. It's slow moving, but well-acted and if not exactly suspenseful, engaging. Maximillian Schell plays the S.S. officer, Derek Jacobi has a small part as a forger, and famed Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal briefly appears as a character. Other adaptations of Forsyth novels are "The Day of the Jackal," "The Dogs of War," and "The Jackal."
