Baldacci's first book, published after years of being rejected (why is this so often true?), became a huge hit. A well-written, entertaining thriller, with sympathetic characters. In fact, the characters are better-realized than in his more recent works. Atypically, he frequently refers to them by their first name; in later books he uses their surname; this makes them both more professional & harder to relate to. A very enjoyable, interesting & satisfying read.
