...I’m not yet ready to abandon the possibility of America... For I’m convinced that the pandemic we’re currently living through is both a manifestation of and a mere interruption in the relentless march toward an interconnected world, one in which peoples and cultures can’t help but collide. In that world—of global supply chains, instantaneous capital transfers, social media, transnational terrorist networks, climate change, mass migration, and ever-increasing complexity—we will learn to live together, cooperate with one another, and recognize the dignity of others, or we will perish. And so the world watches America—the only great power in history made up of people from every corner of the planet, comprising every race and faith and cultural practice—to see if our experiment in democracy can work. To see if we can do what no other nation has ever done. To see if we can actually live up to the meaning actually live up to the meaning of our creed.

Add a CommentAmazingly candid and loved his own personal thoughts and not just a reading of history. His relationship with his staff and every person he encountered were real as read by himself in the audio book with honesty and humor. So happy I got to hear his own remarks as if a conversational story. I hope everyone reads it and looking forward to his next book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
What a gift. This came to me from a hold during the horrors of insurrection at the Capitol; if you’re heartsick about politics, this book will buoy you up. President Obama’s voice is as warm and funny and reassuring as ever. His self deprecating stories are wonderful and memorable—and he just gives you hope! As he’s always done. It is a great relief to hear him, to remember his wisdom and goodness and insight. Truly, a gift. Never boring. I’m never anxious for a chapter break, or new disk. Will be very sorry to surrender back the library copy. Have already ordered the book on disc for each of my children. Don’t miss this wonderful book.
WOW!!!! If you have a chance to listen to Barak Obama narrate this book, I highly recommend that you do so. After 4 years of political chaos, his voice of reason is a joy to hear!!! I love the fact that he is humble and self-deprecating. His humor comes through loud and strong as well as his honor, intelligence, and dedication. It is marvelous to hear the stories inside the White House when it is difficult to know from the news exactly what happened in historical events. The book ends with the death of Osama Bin Laden, so there is much to look forward to in the upcoming books. Highly recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby
