A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK (S2(BI loved this book. It gave me the same waves of happiness I get from curling up with a classic Christie...The alternating points of view keep you guessing, and guessing wrong.(S3(B — Alex Michaelides, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient "Evok[es] the great Agatha Christie classics…Pay close attention to seemingly throwaway details about the characters’ pasts. They are all clues.(S3 (B-- New York Times Book Review A wedding celebration turns dark and deadly in this deliciously wicked and atmospheric thriller reminiscent of Agatha Christie from the New York Times bestselling author of The Hunting Party. The bride – The plus one – The best man – The wedding planner  – The bridesmaid – The body On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed. But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes. The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast. And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?

One of the best mysteries I've ever read. Characters are captured so well they're familiar to you. Perfectly paced. Intricately plotted. Pick up this book, you won't regret it.

I enjoyed it so much that my husband read it too. It was fast paced between 5 different viewpoints and kept us guessing until the end. A very fun read.

Time to join the flood of JCL staff leaving comments!

A celebrity wedding reception on a remote island during a storm so nobody can get to or leave the island, a power outage, a load of wedding guests with some mysterious pasts... There's almost no better mixture for a murder!

I couldn't put this book down. I believe it took me a whopping two days to read. It is full of interesting characters, some more likeable than others, with all sorts of realistic flaws. Each chapter is written from a different character's point of view. I find that to be a tough mechanic to pull off, but Foley nails it. The timing with the "earlier/later" sections (another mechanic I find tricky) is pretty much perfect. The references to the mysterious events of the stag party add an interesting angle to the story. I felt there were maybe a few coincidences too many at the end, but I was still satisfied (and somewhat surprised) with the answer to whodunnit.

Lucy Foley's modern day whodunit is an impressive piece of prose that kept me guessing all the way till the end. It's a must read. I liked reading the story through the 1st person narrative of the different characters and how the past and the present came together. Note though, that the Guest List is a slow burn. The payoff doesn't come until near the end of the book. However, IMO, the payoff is worth it because of the painstaking way Ms. Foley has built the backstory of the main characters. Also, you are not going to care for several of the main characters. I believe that is by design,

Ms. Foley has written a really crafty and c;lever novel. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I very happily give it 5 stars.

I am on the fence about this one. I want to so badly love it because the preface is good. Kinda creepy location with a spooky history, characters that run from complete jerks to sweet and wounded. It has a great twist at the end that I did not see coming unfortunately, it does take awhile to get there. I would mark this as an ok read; definitely has some good moments and definitely has some ho- hum skip this section moments.

The end of the book made it worth reading. Lots of twists. I’m not a fan of flipping ahead and then goIng back in the plot. Just keep on the plot and move ahead. Can’t decide if I liked it.

I loved the writing style with each chapter being from a different character point of view. That may be my favorite style of fiction writing. It was a little too all connected to be believable, but it was a page-turner, none-the-less. I was surprised by the ending, which really made the whole book enjoyable. I could have done without so much vulgar language, but I suppose it could be argued that it fit the characters. For those that like mysteries and revenge stories, this one is good.

Wow! What a wedding!

This mystery is in the Agatha Christie stye….lots of potential suspects and everyone has a secret. I found it entertaining even though somewhat clichéd and with too many coincidences to be believable. If you read and liked The Hunting Party, you'll probably like this one as it is very similar.
