Set in Venice in the late nineteenth century and based on Henry James' eponymous novella, it is a story of obsession, grandeur lost and dreams of Byronic adventures. Ambitious editor Morton Vint is fascinated by his favorite Romantic poet and by his icon's short and wildly romantic life. Having traveled from America to Venice, he is determined to get his hands on the letters the poet wrote to his beautiful lover and muse, Juliana Bordereau.

A marvellous marvellous movie. Rhys Meyers is always excellent, and Vanessa Redgrave must be SO proud of her daughter's acting. Meyers and Richardson produced it. ( Joely Richarson is the sister of Liam Neeson's wife who was killed in Quebec in a skiing accident.) If you love period pieces with great acting, you will love this movie. The cover says "literary" and says "based on a Henry James novella" so maybe the previous reviewers have no idea what these mean.

This movie was boring and slow. I felt I was wasting my time.
