"The story of "shy young Peter Mark Roget, [for whom] books were the best companions, and it wasn't long before Peter began writing his own book. But he didn't write stories; he wrote lists. Peter took his love for words and turned it to organizing ideas and finding exactly the right word to express just what he thought. His lists grew and grew, eventually turning into one of the most important reference books of all time"

Fascinating account of how Roget's Thesaurus was first published and how a "thesaurus" got it's name. Very unique, interesting illustrations as well.

Did you know that the word thesaurus means "treasure house" in Greek? For shy and brilliant Peter Roget, words were powerful - not just for him or for the learned, but for everyone. According to the author, Roget developed a firm belief that "everyone should be able to find the right word whenever they needed it."

This story conveys that power well. The unique illustrations - a mix of collage, watercolor, other media, and photography - will be colorful and expressive to some, perhaps overstimulating to others. The book includes author's and illustrator's notes, a list of principal events in Roget's life, and suggestions for further reading.
