Jackie Chan takes on the IRA - who's going to win? No so much a martial arts movie, but old Jackie still manages to get in a few kicks and punches! Decent action movie.

This is not a regular Jackie Chan movie. Jackie Chan takes a different role in this movie. He takes a more serious role, rather than a role where his character is constantly doing funny things. Even when his character was sad at one point, I was sad too because it felt so real. That's how good of an actor he is. And it's not often you see Jackie Chan being sad. He's always happy and in a good mood. But with this character, that's a different story.

Surprisingly good for a contemporary film. The acting is excellent (to be expected from Brosnan, and a good showing for Chan), and there are enough decent twists, that actually work. It's a real change of pace for Chan, which allows him to show his depth, while (yes) STILL doing kick-a$$ stunts! It does start to go down certain Follywood pitfalls a few times, but then redeems itself, if you're patient enough to wait it out. A couple of things at the end were a little weak, & expected, but overall, a good movie; plenty of action, without having to cringe because the script was so horrid.

From the trailers, I thought this would be a much more somber Jackie Chan movie than what he usually does. And it is. But I wasn't expecting it to be much less of an action movie and more of a political thriller. Not as much kung fu action (although you do get some of Chan's trademark "use all of the props and set around you"), more intricate political and personal tangled threads. I wouldn't exactly call this movie "fun", but it's definitely well-crafted, dark, and kind of heavy--like a good Irish stout.

Rated 8/10. A good Jackie Chan movie, with a fairly decent plot.

With him getting older, some of the action is toned down, which is understandable.

Overall, I thought it was good, and would recommend it to those who like action movies.

If there’s action in a movie, Jackie Chan can likely pull it off, despite being 64 years old. Though there’s not a great deal of action, what’s there isn’t chop-socky, but it is very violent, though it doesn’t overpower the story. All told, it’s a revenge story, with sufficient motivation for the main actors to lift this film from others of its genre, to something approaching believability. Jackie Chan can truly act. Pierce Brosnan is good.
Recommended for action-movie lovers.

I enjoyed this movie. Jackie Chan's English has improved immensely, which makes a difference. His acting is only marginally better. The story is brutal: [SPOILER ALERT] Chan's character hunts down terrorists and isn't bashful about getting his vengeance. I was not familiar with possible current strife with Ireland, but they did a great job of making the history of IRA, UVT, etc. real and relatable for how it might have undercurrents in politics today between Ireland and England. Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan were solid as leads. This is pretty much someone else's twist on Taken, with Jackie Chan serving in the Liam Neeson role. If you're choosing between Taken and this movie, I would watch Taken first, I think it was better.

Great movie, highly recommend. Pierce Brosnan really excels in his role as an IRA leader.

I expected just another action movie, the kind with lots of action and little or no plot. This film rises far above the genre. More plot than action. It is well paced and doesn't let up. Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan both give creditable performances.

Definitely not a waste of time.

An homage to just about every action movie ever made. IF you missed all the Taken movies, all the martial arts movies from late 60s on, and all the IRA movies since the 70s, you might find it interesting. There were a couple of good action sequences, but Jackie Chan was wooden and unappealing. the gratuitous sex scene sort of ruined the last half of the movie as any idiot could see what was going to happen after that.
