Ciaran Hinds' performance carries this tale of grief, new and old, as he revisits a seaside village that was pivotal in his early teen years. However, there are times his descent into alcohol-fueled sadness seems pointless and melodramatic. The scenes here are usually subtle, the marriage repressed, and the slow pace is not for everyone.

Wanted to like this vehicle for veteran actors, Ciarán Hinds and Charlotte Rampling, but the main story (what very little there is) is told mainly in flashback, without much explanation or payoff. Maybe I missed it due to the interminably laborious pacing, but when we get the big reveal at the end, I was left wondering what just happened and why? Maybe I should have asked myself earlier, why spend 1.5 hours on this film!
