Filmed in Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon's signature whimsical style, and stars the filmmakers as a small-town Canadian librarian and a strangely seductive, oddly egotistical French vagabond. When Fiona's orderly life is disrupted by a letter of distress from her elderly Aunt Martha who is living in Paris, Fiona hops on the first plane she can and arrives only to discover that Martha has disappeared. In an avalanche of spectacular disasters, she encounters Dom, the affable, but annoying tramp won't leave her alone.

CANCON alert! A comedy about 4 quasi-homeless people: a hapless (Canadian, eh?) librarian somewhere up-North, her Parisian aunt in distress (Riva's final and unusual comic role), the aunt's ex-beau, a regular escapee from seniors' home (remember Pierre Richard?), and of course, the hobo-in-a-tent. FUN soundtrack from Satie to Last Tango. Richer than Rumba and The Fairy, i.e. with more dialogues and characters (incl. a nice Mountie). Compared to Buster Keaton, it's obviously hard to sustain a 80+ film with sight-gags and action than their original short Walk on the Wild Side, about a brothel house-cleaner mistaken for a hooker: check out the extras on this DVD!

Directed, produced and starred the husband and wife comedy team Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon as a Paris homeless man and Canadian librarian. A hilarious comic strip style love story brought to life physically in the City of Love. Fiona reminded me of Olive in Popeye and Dom of Charlie Chaplin in The Tramp. If you enjoyed the feature film, watch the short Walking on the Wild Side (2000) in Special features.

84 minutes of physicality, whimsy and humour. Gordon & Abel are a pair unmatched in today's cinema. I loved the Canadian angle of the story.
this was Emmanuelle Riva's (Hiroshima, mon amour and Amour) final film - quite the opposite of her role in Amour, this shows her comedic side.

I saw this film at Landmark Theaters. The film companies have just not been making movies like this one. Great character acting, physical humor. I don't pay to see a lot of movies in the theater these days and this was worth the ticket. I would watch this again and again.

"Dear Fiona… After 48 years living in this beautiful city, I still love Paris. But Fiona, they want me to move to an old people's home. They say I can't take care of myself. Ridiculous. I'm only 88. Fiona, help. Love, Martha."

Hello, Martha. How… are you?
-Fine and you?
Okay, but there's this mystery at the laundromat. I'm wondering why my socks dis… appear.
...
Au revoir! By the way, Martha didn't say anything about my socks?
