Is there isn't a subgenre called quirkcore, there should be. It would include movies like "Napoleon Dynamite," "Juno," and most anything with Zooey Deschanel. "Brigsby Bear" is a little darker than those but veers a little too close to the indie quirky comedies that have been prevalent over the past decade. SNL's Kyle Mooney lives with his parents in isolation, his sole entertainment an offbeat kids' show called "Brigsby Bear." But it's all an illusion, as his "parents" abducted him, and he's rescued and reunited with his actual parents (Matt Walsh and Michaela Watkins). As he reintegrates into society (there are echoes of both "The Truman Show" and "Being There"), he cuts a naive, slightly lost figure, and all he wants is to recreate "Brigsby Bear." Again, It gets a little too close to whimsy, but the performers and the genuine offbeatness make it work. Mark Hamill has a rare non-Luke Skywalker role as Mooney's fake father. I deducted half of a star for the ending. Produced by the Lonely Island.

While I don't think it will be everyone's glass of iced tea, Brigbsy Bear is one of the best quirky independent films I've seen in what feels like a very long time. I would classify it as a dramedy. It has an original plot, a strong cast and a nice mix of light and dark, good and evil. It stars and was co-written by Kyle Mooney of "Saturday Night Live." Brigsby Bear is rated PG-13 for thematic elements, brief sexuality, drug material and teen partying.

Really very cool movie. The topic is serious (NOT gross), but the handling is so deft, the dialogue so gorgeous, and the characters so well drawn, that it's genuinely funny. So cool. Recommend.

P.S. The blurb is misleading. Suggest this: watch carefully for the first confusing ten minutes, and it will reveal itself. It's not confusing after that!

Terrible! If you want to watch 90 minutes of Kyle Mooney looking sad while piano music plays in the background this is a great movie otherwise, definite skip. Was excited since it was a Lonely Island movie and was hoping for a few good, dumb laughs. Nope!

This weird movie is about an abducted person who grows up learning from this Bear series and can let it go.

This was not actually as previous stated by another viewer... some stuff in it I would not want my child to see. Did not complete viewing this film for that and I did not care to see myself...so heads up.

Charming, funny, heartwarming and just plain fun. Good acting and a fine script. A movie about the love and support of family and friends that will have you rooting for them all.
