In this program we see a variety of ways water plays a significant role in the lives of so many people, be it for recreation, work or health. First, we visit the largest lake in Colorado, Grand Lake, which offers every type of recreation enjoyed with water, including great sail boating. Next, we learn the history of and explore probably the most beautiful electrical power source you'll ever see, the Bridal Veil Power Station, which features Bridal Veil Falls, a 365-foot waterfall at the end of the box canyon that overlooks Telluride. Then we are awed by the wonder of the incredibly steep Royal Gorge Canyon, where one can also enjoy wild whitewater rafting down the Arkansas River. In the arid American West, it's no surprise how important it is to preserve precious water sources and the Brooks Water Wheel, the last wooden water wheel on the Colorado River, has been preserved for generations as a symbol of the importance of preserving and properly irrigating water. Next in Alamosa in the San Luis valley we meet Erwin Young, owner of Rocky Mountain White Tilapia, who raises and sells over 100,000 pounds of Tilapia a year to restaurants all across the country; to handle the waste from these fish, he also runs the Colorado Gators Reptile Park. Colorado is host to many mountain spring areas such as The Spring Inn near Pagosa Springs and the Strawberry Hot Springs near Steamboat Springs, both offer therapeutic water for health and relaxation.℗
