Add a CommentThis story is a rollercoaster, and I loved the whole ride. Lydia loves her job, and the Bookfrogs, at a busy bookstore in Denver. I knew that something was going to happen to get the plot moving, and that something, and what Lydia found at the scene, propels the rest of the story.
Then, just when I was settling in with Lydia her dad, and her friends and their families, the story is upended again, along with all of their lives, and I spent the rest of this great-to-listen-to Playaway watching Sullivan tie the pieces together. An unusual, creative, and wholly unpredictable read. I am following this author from here forward.
I really liked this book. The author is incredibly creative at inventing a puzzle and fitting all of the pieces together in a satisfying way This was read very well and was hard to stop listening to; there was so much mystery to it. Some commenters have said it is "dark". True in spots, but all of the subjects, suicide, secret and dysfunctional adoption, mass murder, abusive family, etc. are things we see and hear about somewhat commonly. The author has managed to put them all together in one place. Each character experiences an overwhelming amount of stress to deal with and that is the darkness of the story.
