This film plods. One hour and 25. minutes pass before the Japanese navy launch their bombers and fighters to attack Pearl Harbor. The battle scenes are spectacular. IMHO, I would rate "Tora! Tora! Tora!" at 3.0 stars.

This is a 1970 Japanese-American historical docudrama directed by Richard Fleischer, Toshio Masuda (舛田利雄) and Kinji Fukasaku (深作欣二).
The title (Tora! Tora! Tora!) is the Japanese codeword used to indicate that complete surprise had been achieved.
Tora (虎) literally means "tiger", but in this case was an acronym for TOtsugeki RAigeki (突撃雷撃 or "lightning attack").
The Japanese side was initially to be directed by Akira Kurosawa (黒澤明), who worked on script development and pre-production for two years.
But after two weeks of shooting, he was replaced by Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku.
Richard Fleischer said that Kurosawa was miscast for this film, this was not his type of film to make, he never made anything like it and that it just wasn't his style.
Besides, Kurosawa always had complete autonomy, and nobody would dare make a suggestion to Kurosawa about the budget, or shooting schedule, or anything for that matter.
Despite the human problems, however, the film turns out one of the most fascinating and vivid action movies.

This an accurate and well filmed account of that fateful day in Pearl Harbor. Good additional Bonus Features too.

a very good production for its time, and the historical accuracy is good...if you like history you'll probably like this.
