I wanted to love this book. The main problem with it was the chopping back & forward to different peoples angles of the story. I wish it had just followed one persons journey. That style stops me from forming attachment to any of the characters & I'm inclined to believe we need to attach to enjoy the read. Can't recommend it.

A riveting historical novel. This first volume of a new trilogy from Robyn Young covers the early years of the life of Robert the Bruce. She brings the history of this turbulent period vividly alive. Extensive research and a tremendous sense of character, place and pacing draw the reader into the medieval world of Edward I of England and Scotland’s struggle to remain and independent kingdom. Even better than her trilogy on the Templars. An outstanding read.
