#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire . . . Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire. Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive. Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

Love Ilona Andrews' books - they never fail! I read this one a while back and was looking for the second, which is not out yet. I decided to renew my acquaintance with this one. I enjoyed it for the most part. I only gave 4.5 stars because of the narrator. She wasn't terrible, but there are soooo many good narrators out there and this is not one I would seek out - and that IS something I have done in the past. If I enjoyed a book AND the narrator I will look for other books by other authors that they (the narrator) have performed for audiobooks. I have found a couple of excellent books that way!

Reasons that I love this book:
1. Another excellent world from Ilona Andrews. So many possibilities.

2. Interesting mystery-within-a-mystery. And the final end point of the story really surprised me. I am expecting terrific re-read value from this story.

3. HOT chemistry between the romantic leads.

4. This book totally challenges the common romance trope in which the male love interest is an arrogant, aggressive jerk but the story totally overlooks the problem because "he's the one." Or worse, the fact that he's overbearing is made into evidence of how much he loves the female lead, rather than what it actually is -- a dude who is overbearing and doesn't respect boundaries! I love it when a great story goes against the tropes.

5. It's obvious that we are going to have a number of books in which to love and enjoy this romance. <3 <3 <3 <3

What truly surprised me with this urban fantasy was the world building and the fact that the author(s) actually gave a damn about the plot and its characters. I guess I've either been reading incredibly shitty urban fantasies or none at all. It's a little slow going at first but it gets pretty good after Mad Rogan and Nevada join forces. I kept waiting to get annoyed by Nevada's somewhat pearl-clutching personality but she's so grounded, so responsible, so reliable that I enjoyed her character through out the book.
