A MASKED MAN . . . Winter Makepeace lives a double life. By day he's the stoic headmaster of a home for foundling children. But the night brings out a darker side of Winter. As the moon rises, so does the Ghost of St. Giles-protector, judge, fugitive. When the Ghost, beaten and wounded, is rescued by a beautiful aristocrat, Winter has no idea that his two worlds are about to collide. A DANGEROUS WOMAN . . . Lady Isabel Beckinhall enjoys nothing more than a challenge. Yet when she's asked to tutor the Home's dour manager in the ways of society-flirtation, double-entendres, and scandalous liaisons-Isabel can't help wondering why his eyes seem so familiar-and his lips so tempting. A PASSION NEITHER COULD DENY During the day Isabel and Winter engage in a battle of wills. At night their passions are revealed . . . But when little girls start disappearing from St. Giles, Winter must avenge them. For that he might have to sacrifice everything-the Home, Isabel . . . and his life.

This is the fourth book in Hoyt's Maiden Lane series. I love the dour, unpolished Winter Makepeace, head of a foundling home who masquerades as a vigilante by night. This book also features an older, independent heroine and high stakes adventure in some of the scummiest areas of Georgian London. The supporting cast of child characters can come off a bit twee at times, but they felt more fully developed in this book than in previous installments.

So far my favorite of the series.

Not as good as the other books in the series...still a good read.

Just a disclaimer, the description for this book above is not accurate. sure a dragoon captain is hunting for the ghost but he's been doing that on and off throughout the series and more so since the last book so the hunt is not the central point of the plot. Probably the best book of the series, IMO. I've always been curious of Winter's character since the first book. I don't know about others, but the ending regarding the Ghost of St. Giles was certainly a surprise to me, but a good surprise nonetheless.

You don't see this storyline often and Elizabeth pulled it off very well. Good entertaining read

The horrible imps despair, grief, and loss tried to push me off, but I am stronger then I look.
