Not really a mystery but more of a dark drama. This book was very engrossing and equally disturbing. It had me crying near the end.

This book had some thrills and suspense, some likable people and some despicable people, and a reasonably fast moving plot. But my blood pressure just about skyrocketed every time Fictional RCMP officer Sargent McPhail made an appearance. Come-on McPhail this is Canada. I don't think you need to wait around (days) for a warrant as two young women are held (sorry allegedly Held) against their will. You know the stuff - exigent circumstances, probable cause - um - like- entering a dwelling to prevent imminent bodily harm or death. That mother should have used some of her boxing expertise on that idiot. But again, this is the police force that brought us the Picton Scandal (that one was for real)
Confession; I think I am so emotional about the Trump scandals in the States that I should probably stay away from novels featuring the victimization of women for a while.

A dark, stupid book about stupid people making stupid choices, birthing stupid people making stupid choices, birthing stupid people making stupid choices . . .

I picked up this book based on a recommendation on The Next Chapter with Shelagh Rodgers and was not impressed. The writing is mediocre and characters are weak. The women in this book are walking victims; it's like watching a horror movie where every girl finds herself alone in the woods wearing only a bikini and having to knock on the door of an abandoned house decorated with skulls - what could go wrong? And they all have stripper names! Dani, Jamie, Crystal, Courtney, Skylar. Jesus these "girls" (the author continues to refer to the 30+ year old women as girls) never have a chance. It's pulpy and quick to read, I'll give it that. But when I finished it I just felt irritated.

Eh, skim-able. Author was a little over the top with this story. One story quickly developed into a second.. then a third. Perhaps too much for one book but too little for a trilogy. Just.. too much.

This fast-paced novel starts in 1997 when three sisters, growing up on a ranch in western Canada, leave home to escape an abusive father. Further trouble occurs when two brothers who appear to be Good Samaritans, are not. Eighteen years later, the past appears again when one sister and her niece disappear. As the other girls race to find their missing family, they must come to terms with their past. A thriller that encompasses a range of emotions from despair to revenge to hope.
