Hurricane Sandy was not just enormous, it was unprecedented. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration couldn't issue reliable warnings; the Coast Guard didn't know what to do. Superstorm takes readers inside the maelstrom, from dedicated weather professionals like a forecaster who risked his job to sound the alarm, to the crew of the ill-fated Bounty, Mayor Bloomberg, Governor Christie, and countless coastal residents whose lives were torn apart.

There are storms that captivate just by saying their name- 'Andrew', 'Katrina', 'Ike'-and now 'sandy'.

Riveting! If you enjoyed reading INTO THIN AIR (1997 Mt Everest climb disaster), and PROVING GROUND (1998 Sidney-to-Hobart sailing disaster), this book will not disappoint. Kathryn Miles' attention to the weather from every perspective available, sailing/cruise ships' dramas, and the potential deadly impact to local residents up the Eastern seaboard (and taut pacing) makes for an engrossing story. Your anxiety level will rise as Sandy grows; I was tempted to check the weather. Really good read.

It's an interesting view of the lag between what was on the ground at the time, what was predicted and the politicians', first-responders' and ordinary people's reactions to both.
