Rufus isn't like other boys, he has his quirks, and he doesn't quite fit into the mold of a small town kid. Yes, he likes blood, but is he a vampire or werewolf, nothing seems to fit. Even his sexuality is undefined.

Yes, he likes the girl across the street, bang-bang. Then there's also a homoerotic relationship with the town jock. It's an important part of the this tangled web, yet it seems so unimportant and fluid considering the deeper meaning of what is Rufus.

There's no overt nudity, and the bit of skin shown was necessary to the story. The same goes for graphic violence being minimal, but also necessary to further the narrative of a deeply troubled "youth?"

Rufus isn't like other films, and I hope you appreciate the barren landscape that sets the scene, the minimal sets that let the characters shine above the background, and even some of the flawed acting that allowed this story to be told.

Take from it what you will, but I thoroughly enjoyed being treated to something different in a genre that films like Twilight took away.
