This was an enjoyable take on the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale. Full of humor and action that kids of all ages will enjoy.

For starters - I found it a really, really "queer" thing (indeed) that in Gantua, the land of giants, there were no females, at all. I guess that maybe, just like the magical beanstalk, these giants also grew out of beans, too, so there was no need for any women to be present as breeding vessels.

From my point of view, I found that this over-long and tiresome re-telling of the famous children's fable inevitably verged on the very brink of brain-dead stupidity far too often.

Yes. I do realize that this story was pure fantasy, but, it definitely took way too many liberties as it recklessly bent the original tale to the absolute breaking point.

To me, a good part of the cast were just a bunch of snotty, self-loving actors who continually delivered weak and insincere performances from start to finish.

Not only was the dialogue terrible, throughout, but the dumb romance that transpired between doofus farm-boy, Jack, and headstrong princess, Isabelle, was just as predictable and sickening as you could get.

And, the sad truth was that Jack certainly didn't turn out to be much of a giant slayer as this film's title so boastfully suggested.

As usual, about the only thing that this picture (with its PG-13 rating) had going for it was its extravagant CG effects. And, before long, these gave me a splitting headache, since they were so ridiculously over-done.

I enjoyed Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci as always. The story was ok and the giants were better. I'd rate this an average movie. More of a family/kid movie.

Kids will enjoy this one, but I found the the script silly and Nicholas Hoult isn't going to win any acting awards for this performance. I guess the giants were the best part of this movie.

A reimagining of the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Excellent acting and special effects and and interesting storyline should make this a favourite for families.

Twist in the classic fairy tale is good but poorly executed. Stick with the other film version, read the story or watch Shrek for a better time. Instead of Fee-fi-fo-fum, I got Ho-ho-hum-hum with those disjointed dialogues and scene changes.

Uncle (p.o.'d at his nephew for the 'goods' received in trade for his horse): "...I don't ask for much... In return for all those years I put food in your belly; clothes on your back; a roof over your head... So what do I have to show for it? ...Beans!" Jack: "I'll, I'll take them to The Abbey tomorrow and we'll tell the monks what happened!" Uncle: "You believe that story?" Jack: "I mean, he was a monk!" Uncle: "-Cuz he wore a robe... funny haircut?"
