It was interesting to read this after seeing the movie "Coco Avant Chanel" which covers the early life of Chanel. Includes lots of Chanels private photos. Coco Chanel comes across as a very private person, who tried to live by her own rules.

If you're a fashion fan, this is a must-read. You'll notice how heavy the book is, once in hand : it contains high quality paper & an incredible number of photographs.
Picardie must have spent eons in various French archives - it seems not 1 corner of Mlle.'s life is unexplored. Since Coco herself often deliberately clouded biographical facts, the book reveals certain things for the first time. Of particular note is her involvement (or not?) with the Germans during World War II. Fascinating woman; fascinating book, incredibly well done.

A life spent striving for elegance and beauty. Copiously illustrated.
