First published in 1973, "The Book of Eve" has become a classic. When Eva Carroll walks out on her husband of 40 years, it is an unplanned, completely spontaneous gesture. Yet Eva feels neither guilt nor remorse. Instead, she feels rejuvenated and blissfully free. As she builds a new life for herself in a boarding house on the "wrong" side of Montreal, she finds happiness and independence - and, when she least expects it, love.

66 year old Eva up and leaves her husband after many years of marriage. With nothing but a small pension cheque, she rents a room in a boarding house in a seedy section of Montreal. There she discovers freedom for the first time in her life. An easy read, and very enjoyable. Good writing and characters. This book was made into a movie, which has been highly recommended. The verdict--my bookclub folks loved it and it's been suggested for an OPL bookclub suggestion for the future.
