Duke Ellington is someone I never heard of before but his music is amazing. This cd brought to an artist I never heard about before and made me enjoy his music by putting together some of his essential hits. The music is mostly Jazz and has a very haunting melody to it. Simply put it is music that will stay with you after many years. You might even say that some of the pieces are connecting to your brain and injecting themselves into your memory so you don’t forget them. For beginners to jazz music you should try listening to some of Duke’s music, to me his music is not my favourite and something I would spin everyday but to some others they will appreciate it better than me. I enjoy other artists with a bit more light hearted sound in their jazz such as Louis Armstrong and Ray Charles. Fans of the genre will find much to love here and boy will they be in for a big surprise when they hear these songs. I truly believe that great music doesn’t age and can played time and time again, this compilation proves that. A younger generation can pick up this cd and find a whole bunch of content they never knew about and they can enjoy it too. Overall I would give this cd a 4/5 because though the compilation was excellent, it wasn’t my type of jazz music that I listen to over and over again. I hope others enjoy the cd though.
