Excellent movie adapted from the Fielding tome.

One of the great historical romps, acted to the hilt by a brilliant cast led by Albert Finney as the goodhearted and rascally Tom, and directed with verve by the late Tony Richardson. A must see, even if you don't like historical movies--especially if you don't like historical movies.

Initially a bit difficult to watch given the period it is set in and that there is period music as well as subtitles dubbed in. An involving story of a baby who is considered to be born out of wedlock and apparently the son of a woman and a barber - the lord of the manor(?) adopts the child.

Not everything is clear in this story, later it is revealed that the son is actually of the lord's sister.

Perhaps the most original and provocative scene is of the young man Tom Jones eating with a woman and they are seated across from each other. Though a scene of less than polite eating, it is almost romantic if not sensual in the mannerisms of the two characters relating to each other as they eat.

Another scene is of a deer hunt with hounds which ends with the deer being "paraded" by one of the hunters and startling a woman's horse into bolting.
