Partly because it changed her status among her fellow New York socialites and partly because it drove a wedge between her and her two sons, Miriam Elizabeth Swanson still hasn't gotten over the fact that her philandering husband dumped her for his younger girlfriend. She's become highly set in her ways and generally is pretty unlikeable, and her only true friend is the gay man who rents one of the upper-floor apartments in her townhouse. However, in true Dorothea Benton Frank fashion, Miriam retreats to Sullivan's Island, only to learn life lessons that turn her into a generous, loving human while there's still time to forge new relationships with her sons and their families -- and to fall in love again. As always, Frank's writing is charming and funny.
