The fifth book in the Detective Joe Sandilands series

This is a bit more gritty than some of the Joe Sandilands books. It's easy to see why a combination of the effects of the British class system and World War I combined to usher in the Roaring Twenties, with its cynicism and frantic scramble for diversion. References to artists of the time are interesting, as is the character of Dorcas. I may go back and re-read the whole series from start to finish, just to enjoy the character development, which seems to culminate in the author's most recently released Sandilands book. The hints at the develpment of the secret spy service dealt with in John LeCarre's books is intriguing (pardon the pun).
