An exellent film with good performances from all of the actors. It tells the story from one person's point of view and, in part 2, reveals the truth. Excellent. 5 stars.

Good movie with a twist.

Overall a good story, the twist at the end makes me like it slightly less though. Although there are lots of good gay men movies out there, I was looking for a female version of Maurice. What I got was something very close to that but then the ending happens and completely overrides the cuteness and sadness of this story.

Definitely an interesting movie - saw parts of it on TVO ages ago and am thrilled to be able to watch the whole thing. The first half is very interesting, in and of itself, the second moreso. The story gets tiresome when it tries too hard to be even more interesting when Maud arrives in London and learns "the truth" of her parentage.

I loved it. At first it seemed rather predictable, then it wasn't, and all became rather interesting. Really excellent.

Really well done -- does the book justice. The way they've put it together in two segments is really clever. The first half seems pretty straightforward but then the second part goes insane with plot twists.

I really liked this movie! The twist in the middle is a showstopper! Great plot line, and even better acting.

I agree that the background music was a little trying - but I really enjoyed this adaptation. It was well acted and was fairly close to the book.

Although the background music was a bit annoying at times, this movie was pretty good. It follows the story line of the novel fairly closely. You can tell the movie was made for tv as Part II retells parts of what happened in Part I.

Better than the book, this mini series really brings alive the wonderful storytelling of this tale. A naive young woman is deceived by her maid, whom she has come to love, into a marriage from hell. But nothing is as it seems for while the young woman is out of the frying pan, the fire that consumes her and the maid bring on a series of events that will make you question everything that has happened. Quite enjoyable! And very well acted!

Lady Maud Lilly is taken from an orphanage at a young age and is brought up by her perverse uncle as his personal secretary, where she spends her days cataloguing his collection. Suddenly, "the gentleman" (Mr. Rivers) rides in and tries to seduce her with a seemingly fool proof plot that will net him her dowry / inheritance. To this end he travels to Lant Street in London to engage Susan to hire on as Lady Maud Lilly's lady maid. The two girls fall in love with each other, and Susan keeps to the promise she made to the gentleman, only to be betrayed by both Maud and "the gentleman." The second episode is the reveal of how Susan was betrayed and uncovers some deep dark secrets that will astound both girls.
