This installment in the series is another openhearted reminder of the slower, kinder Botswana culture …a kind of sanctuary from the crazy-paced Western culture. Characteristic of McCall Smith’s blueprint, the simple “mysteries” are a vehicle for the character studies which reveal their life philosophies and human values. An agreeable read.

Mma Ramotswe is a detective, wife, and mother in Botswana. In this 7th installment of the series, she is juggling many cases and issues including blackmail and possible medical fraud. Humor and believable characters make this an engaging book.

Each book in this series is as delicious as Mma Potokwane's fruit cake. Feel good books.

This book was alright. I was a little bored at times, but Smith does an excellent job in bringing life to story with his descriptions.

As the series goes, Mma Ratowse and Makutsi are always up to their detective and office work with the help of their friends. Blackmail, witches' curse, doctor's fraud and other challenges are presented, with interesting ways they figure out what needs to be done and left alone. Easy read.

I found that there was something a little different about this one from the previous ones in the series. Still a great read full of witty comments and interesting cases.

A light and fun read. Liked the concentration on Mma Ramotswe's assistant.

What a total delight. Blue Shoes is one of those books you cannot wait to read, you eagerly read every wonderful word, and alas, it's over much too soon. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in this totally delicious series about Precious Ramotswe, the traditionally built lady detective from Botswana!

This seventh addition to the series has the usual fare of combined cases that Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi are trying to solve along with small personal issues that arise in their lives. Will Mma Mukutsi upset the apple cart regarding her fiancÔøΩ and return to a life of loneliness? Will Mma Ramotswe''s traditional build be her undoing? And how will Mr. Polopetsi fit in with the ladies of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency when he takes matters into his own hands? These and all other questions will be answered in due course with the usual aplomb and large dollops of humor to be added into an excellent recipe that never fails to please.
