The killings at Badger's drift: An elderly woman dies suddenly after witnessing something unsettling in the woods.
Written in blood: It is up to Inspector Barnaby to cast light on the case, but what the calm and collected policeman discovers only deepens the mystery. It seems that the victim was a man of many secrets no marriage certificate is found to match the wedding photos in his home, no relatives come forward and he has no national insurance number. And when the woman he was wooing admits that she saw a blonde stranger arrive at his house two nights before the murder, Barnaby is faced with quite a quandary.
Death of a hollow man: When the Causton Amateur Dramatic Society performs Amadeus, the character Salieri slits his own throat. When the actor playing Salieri actually dies in the play, Barnaby is on the case.
Faithful unto death: Barnaby investigates the kidnapping of the beautiful wife of a wealthy businessman.
Death in disguise: Barnaby investigates a suspicious death at a local commune.
