Very good show with a good deal of subtle and not so subtle humour. Seemed very plausible especially in Canada.

amusing.

this story was remade in 2013 by Don McKellar as The Grand Seduction, and moved from Quebec to Newfoundland.

This movie is very sweet and fun, but I was surprised by some of the suggestive humour for a G-rated title.

It was humorous. I enjoyed the French Canadian setting. I was almost put off by the fishing and soccer cover as I find fishing and soccer dull. Not to worry. The fishing scene is brief, and the soccer connection is hilarious especially for people who aren't fans.

This is a wonderful film! I loved the charactors and the way that the community works together. It put a smile on my face.

A hilarious movie about a very small fished- out Quebecois fishing town and its inhabitants.
when a major plastic company proposes to put in a factory not far from saint marie la mauderne, the small town's unemployed population feels all their financial problems solved. until they are told that the factory cannot do this without the town having a doctor, but the mayor of the town thinks he knows just the right guy.

A good movie in a very simple and fun sort of way -- the plot isn't terribly original and the film is relatively predictable as it goes along. Still, what it does it does well: it never attempts to be the big, complex movie that it isn't -- which isn't the case for a lot of similar films. Well-crafted, well-written.

Watch it for the scenery alone -- filmed in a quaint fishing village in the Gulf of the St. Lawrence (Harrington Harbour, Quebec) -- or for a glimpse of small-town Atlantic Canada, however embellished it may be.
