It's October 1957, at the height of the Cold War paranoia. A lonely boy named Hogarth is raised by his mother, a waitress widowed to an Air Force pilot. Left alone one evening, Hogarth discovers an iron giant who fell from space. With the help of a beatnik, they have to stop the U.S. military and a federal agent from finding and destroying the Giant.
