Marge Gunderson: [to Gaear] So, that was Mrs. Lundegaard on the floor in there. And I guess that was your accomplice in the wood chipper. And those three people in Brainerd. And for what? For a little bit of money? There's more to life than a little money, you know. Don'tcha know that? And here ya are, and it's a beautiful day. Well. I just don't understand it.
(Jerry) All right. I'll talk to my boss. See, they install that TruCoat at the factory. There's nothing we can do. But I'll talk to my boss.
(man) These guys here. These guys. It's always the same. It's always more.
…..(Went to another office and chit-chat on plans for the weekend...)
(Jerry) He says I can knock $ off that TruCoat. One hundred?
man) You lied to me, Mr Lundegaard. You're a bald-faced liar. … Where's my goddamn chequebook. Let's get this over with.
(man) We sat right here in this room and went over this.
(Jerry) Yah, but that TruCoat...
(man) I said I didn't want any TruCoat.
(Jerry) Yah, but I'm saying, that TruCoat, you don't get it, you get oxidation problems...
(man) You're sitting there talking in circles like we didn't go over this already.
(Jerry) Yeah, but this TruCoat...
(man) We had a deal … Darned if you didn't tell me you'd get me this car without the sealant for …
(Jerry) All right, I'm not saying I didn't.
(man) You called me and said you had it. "Ready to make delivery" you says. And here you are and you're wasting my time and my wife's time. And I'm paying $ xyz for this vehicle here.

Add a CommentMinnesota's great noir film. What can't a pregnant policewoman solve while the man's collecting stamps?
Funny thing about Fargo: being a Minnesotan, at first I really didn't get why everyone raved about this film. But then I found that good friends from New York and California thought it hysterical because the characters reminded them of me. So much for a life unexamined. . . .
This movie is a near perfect addition to the film noir genre, in which it maintains a beautiful individuality by having a very rural setting and having a majority of very bright shots due to its setting. The film provides commentary on a good deal of issues: rural set crime, corporate greed, and female empowerment. Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes gritty thrillers or deeply philosophical stories.
Solid, solid movie. I'm sorry I watched it so late.
My fellow Minnesotans, do not be offended; many of us sound like this, at least some of the time, and it's all part of our charm. It's rare for me to like a violent movie this much, but I think Fargo is pretty perfect. The entire cast, the dark comedy and numerous small details (things like Norm's wildlife painting, José Feliciano performing, the father-in-law drinking coffee from a Red Wing cup...) contribute to the whole.
3.5/4 of 5 Good but not as amazing as I remembered it/read reviews of. Kind of random characters/scenes (i.e. classmate reunion), I guess it's setting the mood, character development, etc. but more just seemed to be going slowly/randomly. Somewhat reminded me of tarrantino. I like other coens better
This is Fargo the movie. Don't know what the special edition is, but here's the plot. A small town car salesman has secretly been selling his father-in-law's new cars and is heavily in debt. On the verge of being discovered, he comes up with a great solution: hire men to kidnap his wife. When his father-in-law pays the ransom, he'll give the kidnappers their share and replace the cars. But things never go as planned, especially when the guys you hire are bumbling idiots and so are you. The heroine is a small town sheriff of Brainard, Minnesota named Marge Gunderson. She's pregnant and smart and she gets the bad guys. There are moments in this film when you just can't imagine anyone being so stupid. Which is the point of the film. If you like this one, you might like Burn After Reading, another Coen Brothers' film about two idiots who try selling a CIA analyst's personal memoirs to the Russians for money.
Great new series.
Have always loved the simplicity of the characters and the black comedy in the story. A lot of people really go through life with the tunnel vision that these characters show and I find them all quite funny (and annoying if they get too close to me).
One of those rare movies the gets everything right. Spectacular casting, acting, dialogue, and filming. I can't imagine this movie being any better.
