Keeps you thinking of "who did such a thing" and "why". Box does a good job of dropping hints for you to try to connect the dots as the main character attempts to do. Only thing I didn't like was the "mystic" visions of Sheridan and Nate. I didn't feel that they were needed for the story even though they did hint towards doom. At least this writter does conclude the loose ends even if Joe is still wondering about them.

The 4th book in CJ Box's Joe Pickett series - and it continues the trend of great writing and compelling characters and storylines. I enjoyed this book quite a bit, particularly how Joe and his wife Marybeth grow as characters, and also how their friendship with Nate Romanowski evolves to include their eldest daughter's interest in falconry. Box includes real world threads of events that impact the Western US way of life. In Trophy Hunt, it is land development and oil, gas, and mineral rights. Well worth the time to read this fine series.

Same great writing, but unnecessarily gory.

I agree with Cabby. I recommend reading the three previous Joe Pickett novels 1st.
