To avoid Nazi retaliation against jack and George, their family moves to Bowmanville, 20 km away from their old house in Whitby. Their mom knows nothing about her sons' activities, and as far as she is concerned, they move because their mom is offered a better-paying job in a prisoner-of-war camp (Camp 30). Then, Jack and George accept an after-school mail delievering job- and they have to deliever the mail to the prisoners in Camp 30. Camp 30 holds the highest-ranking German prisoners, and the prisoners are planning a mass escape. Of course, Jack and George is not aware of that. A u-Boat captain, Otto Kretschmer, befriends them so he can get the information (like maps, movie tickets, etc.) from them to try to escape. One day, the boys attend a play in Camp 30, and they discover the tunnel during the intermission of the play. They get tied up and Kretschmer forces them to crawl through the tunnel. Then they (the German prisoners plus Jack and George) drive to where a u-Boat is supposed to pick them up and go to Germany. Little bill and his team manage to capture all the prisoners just before they board the U-boat.
