This abridged version of Outlander is considerably shorter than the original and I'm afraid it does lose something in the process. However if you enjoy historical romance this is still a great story with a much lighter 6 hr. listening experience instead of the full length 32 hr.

This racy, extremely well written love story, set mainly in 18th-century Scotland, effectively combines a romantic potboiler with magical fantasy and time travel. Author Diana Gabaldon provides effective glimpses into the ancient lives and folk ways of the Scottish highlanders, along with the many attractive (and not-so-attractive) qualities of Scottish men. Perhaps even more remarkable than her vivid love scenes are her excruciating scenarios involving physical torture. The voice of Geraldine James helps heighten the effect of Gabaldon’s scintillating prose.
