In this #1 New York Times bestseller, Alex Cross is ready to resign-but when his partner shows up with a case he can't refuse, he goes up against the most bone-chilling killers of his entire career.
Detective Alex Cross is on his way to resign from the Washington, D.C., Police Force when his partner's oldest friend-a Vietnam veteran-is arrested for murder. He is subject to the iron hand of the United States Army, and the evidence against him is strong enough to send him to the gas chamber.
Sampson is certain his friend has been framed, and Alex's investigation turns up evidence overlooked-or concealed-by the military authorities. Drawing on their years of street training and an almost telepathic mutual trust, Cross and Sampson go deep behind military lines to confront the most terrifying-and deadly-killers they have ever encountered. Behind these three highly skilled killing machines there appears to be an even more threatening controller. Discovering the identity of this lethal genius will prove to be Cross's most terrifying challenge ever.
On his visits home, Alex must confront another, more harrowing mystery: what's the matter with Nana Mama? As he explores the possibility of a new relationship with a woman who offers him new hope, Alex must also confront the fact that his beloved grandmother is only human.

Back to the James Patterson writing that I like. Kept me interested in the book all the time which resulted in me finishing the book in 4 days.

Very good book by Patterson with some very heartwarming moments from the big Sampson, quite overdue in my opinion. I think one of the things I didn't like much about the book is how after not making any progress in the investigation, one single events reveals the names of the majority of culprits and from then it turns more from investigation to a "search and destroy" mission

A very good pick up to the series. Brings Cross fans to a new chapter in the development of Alex Cross

Like all of his other books this one was well done. I couldn't stop reading it and had to be told to put it down. Another expert novel by James Patterson.

the killers base there names off of the four horsemen (for those how don't know what they are: death on the pale horse, war on the black horse, famine on the green horse, and the devil on the dead horse.)

Seemingly innocent vietnam vets are being set up for grusome murders and executed by the state. How the real killers are caught and what the motive is.

This murder mystery novel is so cookie-cutter that nothing that happens is an actual mystery. Very disappointing.

Ok story line but his writing wasn't as good as it normally is - too choppy and chapters too short
