A slow start that picks up steam with a surprisingly authentic story. What could have been "bitter old white man" redeemed by "black street kid" is not what happens. They both polish and burnish each other, leading to a quietly successful next step. Spot-on depiction of upper middle class private schools; Anna Paquin does a good job of awkward challenge as the white schoolmate who's attracted to him.

I hoped for "very good" but got REALLY GOOD. Rob Brown delivered character Jamal with depth. Per liner notes, Connery contributed script changes that I liked.
And watch for this surprising line: I live here.

Well worth watching. I hope JD Salinger had a chance to watch the movie before he passed away. That would have been cool.

SO GOOD! The story is a nice inspiring story about a black kid from the Bronx and an author who has been in "hiding" since the publishing of his first novel- the greatest of the 2oth century, Avalon Landing.
