Tremendously violent just within the first few pages. When 2 characters started describing how they were going to torture the protagonist, I quit.

A mystery set in New Orleans with rich characters and history. The story is timeless and universal - A flawed and troubled lead Detective, Dave Robicheaux finds himself in too deep in a quagmire of criminal networks and must pull himself out if he is to survive. It can be hard to like Detective Robicheaux because of his flaws, but his redeeming qualities save him and the story, in the end. The descriptive details of the setting and references to Cajun language and traditions make this a different and enjoyable book.

Beautifully eloquent author, allbeit a tad dark. Very enjoyable read. This series gives an interesting insight into american cultural nuances. The characters are very 'real'.
