Kubrick is Michael Herr's memoir of his nearly twenty-year friendship and collaboration with Stanley Kubrick, one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and the creator of such classics as Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange. From their first meeting at an advance screening of The Shining in 1980, Kubrick and Herr began an intense intellectual exchange that grew into the artistic collaboration that ultimately produced the groundbreaking Vietnam film Full Metal Jacket.

Filled with personal insights and previously untold anecdotes, Kubrick is a probing view into the inner life of a man whose creative passion and powerful intellect changed the art of filmmaking forever -- and of the complicated, often misunderstood man behind the art.

A good read from someone who was close to Stanley. Most of the book seems to be an attempt to defend Stanley and his character from the critics, but, at other times, he recollects intimate moments he and Stanley had. These memories are what make the book worthwhile, because you get to see a side to him that is rarely revealed to the public. At the end of the book, the author discusses Eyes Wide Shut, but appears to have misunderstood the film, going so far as to say that it has a happy ending. Regardless, the book will be fulfilling to anyone interested in seeing a more personable side of the great director.

Not sure how this author got someone to publish this crap. I'm sure Stanley Kubrick's life is interesting but Herr can't tell you that because he does not know how to write so it can be understood.
