I am working my way through all Mr. Burke's novels, and this one is as good as the rest. There's no doubt he's a great writer - his ability to capture ambiance is fabulous (maybe too much reliance on the sense of smell, though... can you really smell spawning fish?). I am finding now that the stories are starting to sound alike, whether it is from the Dave Robicheaux series or the others. There is a lot of "poor little downtrodden guy" versus "arrogant and inevitably bad rich guy". And if I read "he's got a two by four up his ass" one more time, I am going to scream. I think I need to take a break from Mr. Burke's oeuvre.
