This was written in 1974 and is a parody of spy thrillers. Some of the content is dated -- bar closings, cold war, etc. And as Hazlitt says "English humour . . . She must get used to it." The book is hilarious.

Can a mystery still be called a mystery when the conclusion can be guessed by page 5 and the process is so bland that even the author's remarkable dry wit cannot save it?

And yes, it is a rhetorical question.
