I enjoyed the calculated view of post cold war Russia and the impact of such a fraught history on the present generation of leaders and scholars. Even though it is just fiction, the idea of hiding so much cruelty and political crime to line up with 21st century global commerce made for a fun read. The end was a bit 007esque but I do love a good spy novel.

Wasn't his best work and the story line got tedious. His latest book was much better.
