Add a CommentI always enjoy reading about Alex Cross and his family and friends. As always love the short chapters, great writing and twisted bad buys.
A fast paced thriller where Cross's new case is about the Mastermind who robs banks and kills the hostages. Some parts are a bit unreal like his daughters' brain tumor and Christine's dramatic decision. A true cliff hanger ending which leads directly to the next novel. Not great writing but it is easy, reasonably entertaining reading.
I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, it suffers from some of Patterson's usual issues - contrived, unlikely situations, unnecessary sexual situations (Cross's fiance breaks up with him, so he almost immediately falls into a sexual relationship with an FBI agent), a lack of understanding of the financial situations of police officers, teachers and the middle class in general. But this book doesn't have the gory scenes and psychological horror that some of his previous ones have had.
The last few chapters have several unexpected twists and turns, and the book ends with a surprise bombshell that actually has me waiting with anticipation to read the next book!

I really enjoyed this book, kept me interested so much that I finished it in 4 days.
OK, this is a bit difficult of a review for me to write. I am a big Alex Cross and James Patterson fan. The book was entertaining, well-written and a good read BUT it was disapppointing. What is it with Patterson? The last book I read contained two completely different plots between the first half and second half of the book. Roses are Red contains half a book and is just a setup for a future book. Although the killer is finally identified (I don't want to give anything away), nothing is resolved. So you feel like you invested reading the whole book, but don't get the satisfaction at the end. So I have to downgrade what would have been a strong 8 down to a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10.
Very interesting piece to the Alex Cross series. Patterson awakes his audience once again with Roses are Red
Not one of his best. Very average. 5 of 10 for me.
Some say this book is gruesome but im 13 years old and really liked it
