This book is about the life of Maya Angelou growing up as an African-American. The first 1/3 of the book seemed promising but I was disappointed by the rest of the book. Maya Angelou did not live a clean life, neither did her brother or family. I don't think she is that much to be blamed as her childhood life was difficult. However, I do wish that she could have at least been remorseful or such about her teen years as I think her autobiography about her teen years, although impartial, do view sex as a "whatever" thing, and it certainly goes against my views. All in all, however, Angelou's book is well-written and has taught me about life in general.

Maya Angelou talks about her life growing up as an African-American teenager. She was raised by her grandmother who owned a merchandise store in Stamps, Arkansas and talks about the life of the mistreated and misunderstood African-Americans. As a teenager she and her brother later moved with their parents where she, in general, had a broken and insecure life.
Well-written, but this book disappointed me as her teen years turned out to be full of immorality.
