A weekend away deep in the English countryside takes a sinister turn in this suspenseful and compulsive debut psychological thriller.
Sometimes the only thing to fear...is yourself.

Leonora (Lee to some, Nora to others) is a reclusive writer, but when an old friend unexpectedly invites her to a weekend away in an eerie glass house, she reluctantly agrees to make the trip. But a haunting realization creeps in to the party: they are not alone in the woods.

Forty-eight hours later, Nora wakes up in a hospital bed with the knowledge that someone is dead. Wondering not "what happened?" but "what have I done?" she tries to piece together the events of the past weekend. In order to uncover secrets and reveal motives, Nora must revisit parts of herself that she'd rather leave buried where they belong: in the past.

In the vein of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl, this gripping thriller will have readers on the edge of their seats until the very last page.

Apparently I don’t have a high tolerance for works that create suspense merely by making the narrator withhold central facts, and where the protagonist willingly enters an uncomfortable situation rather than ask an obvious question or two.

Enjoyed this book. Not my favourite Ruth book (Turn of the Key) but still a good read.

A quick read and a page turner at times. I found it to be pretty predictable.

Although it is predictable, It was still an enjoyable quick read. Ware is letting you solve the story. It is definitely not a horror but is a thriller.

I grabbed this book because I was in a rush and really did not care. I just wanted something to read.
This novel is not what I would consider a horror, but more like psychological thriller. It was definitely different than the usual books I have read, in the respect that I have not read books that have a young person in contemporary Britain. It was very entertaining and had me laughing several times during the first two thirds book. I enjoyed the characters Nina and Tom a lot.
The plot was not the most elaborate, but it did evoke the anxiety that comes with loss of memory, confusion and tragedy. You do not have to spend too much time thinking. It is an easy read and worth the time.

Not scary as others made it out to be, and probably the most predictable book of Ware’s that I’ve read. Still a good read tho.

Recommended by someone, I decided to read this book. There were parts I did find scary but overall it doesn't take too long to figure out the ending. There were a couple parts of the book that I found to be a bit unbelievable and for that reason I can't say that I loved it. Not sure if I could be lured into reading another book by this author.

The plot follows the authors usual format with plenty of details about her characters with hints sprinkled throughout the first half of the book that something terrible either will or has happened. The story pace picks up three quarters the way through as the author tells us what happened - always a good story, but the reader must be patient and turn a lot of pages to get to that point. This novel is definitely for females readers as it involves girlhood friends getting together one last time as single females at their friend's hen/bachelorette party. Of course, the females are not all stable, even after ten years from their grad prom. All have issues. Just which one is the quirkest?

Not my genre. I only read it because my book club did. It did keep me entertained, yet I'm surprised I lasted to the end. The reviews were off on this one. It wasn't scary and it was predictable. I had most of it figured out before I finished it.
