Make no mistake about it - this is a very naughty book - naughty and politically incorrect. It is also soaked in Dahl's characteristic acidic wit. The pretext is that Dahl is sharing the diaries of his Uncle Oswald, who was, by his own admission, a sybarite - someone who lives entirely for pleasure. He realizes while still in his teens that he will need lots of money to live in the style to which he would like to become accustomed and, with his Chemistry professor and the lovely Yasmin, embarks on a calculating and entirely unscrupulous scheme to become very rich. Along the way, the three will use many of the famous men alive between the two World Wars - kings, writers, musicians, artists and so on - and Dahl has good fun with all of them, clearly revealing who he admires and who he abhors.

Great read for adults! Dahl is a true master of short stories!

Definitely for grown ups, but so much fun to read! And it's subtle enough that my mother loved it, too.

I recommend reading "Switch Bitch" first, for two introductory stories about Uncle Oswald and the origins of his lascivious diary.

Awesome. Same brilliant writing as the childrens books we all love, just a different topic. You may find Mr. Dahl is not as innocent as you think. Funny, entertaining, thought provoking, and well written. Fun read.

Absolutely hilarious - this is NOT the Roald Dahl your children read....well obviously he's the same author, but oh my....very adult topic.
