When I think of classic 80s movies, I always tend to overlook this one. I've seen it a few times but seeing it again reminds me of how bad it is. Nicholas Cage in general is a great actor but he was "totally " wrong for the part. He looked like a 30 year old trying to be a high school kid. I was surprised at all the nudity and sex, not to mention the swearing. I guess I had forgotten about all of that. The storyline is cute, but the only good thing about this movie was the music. If you want a great 80s movie, I'd recommend The Breakfast Club or Sixteen Candles. The two stars I gave this movie are for the hair, the clothes and the music. The rest is not worth it.
This was a GREAT movie. I don't know what's with all the haters dissing it. You should definitely watch it if you're interested in some classic art from this era.
Deborah Foreman is beautiful, young Nick Cage is handsome, they were made for each other despite being from opposite sides of town. true love conquers all. very thin on story line but I still got a few yuks out of it. not the worst movie I have ever seen but far from the best. not likely to ever watch it again but it wasn't a total waste of time either.
If you didn't grow up in this era, it is very difficult to understand the genre presented in this movie. This was an awesome movie with a dynamite soundtrack if you were a teen in 1983.
While this is a very very bad movie, did I mention it was bad, I didn't see any rape in it. Unless you mean Nicolas Cage having sex in the club's bathroom with his willing ex-girlfriend while he was drunk. Other than that the only "sex" scenes were by consent. But once again, this was a very very BAD movie.
I hate this film. I truly think it's awful. I was somewhat pleased to find it, only to be utterly disappointed with it in an immense way. It was so bad. I cannot commend it at all. It treats topics like rape with a heavy hand; it's disgusting, in that sense. The film itself is poorly acted and its story (which is supposed to be an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet) is so awfully crafted and executed that the whole ordeal may soar right over your head. The tacky Valley Girl speak didn't even bother me; it was, scarily, the least awful part of the film. I don't recommend it for anyone; I can't think of any audience that would appreciate it.

A real disappointment.
